Club House Restoration Status – April 14, 2018

April 14, 2018: Garry Woodhouse has advised the clubhouse is nearly finished. Furniture when in today! April 9, 2018: Jim Keil has advised Post – Harvey restoration work is progressing on the Bayou City Flyers Club House. As of April 9, 2018, additional wood framing has been installed around the door and windows, T-111 wood paneling has been installed on the interior walls, primed and painted. Window trim has been installed, two drip pans have been installed below the leaking roof vents and plumbed to drain outside with ceiling insulation and ceiling tiles installed. Search & Rescue – A Successful Outcome

BCF member, Jeff Trotter, lost a plane north of the field on June 10, 2018 so he contacted BCF member John Haskell who has a drone with camera and GPS which he has set-up to fly a grid pattern north or east of the powered RC area of Dick Scobee Memorial Airfields to search for lost RC aircraft. John was successful in locating Jeff’s plane on June 11, 2018 and Jeff was able to recover it that same day. Thanks to BCF member Jeff Trotter, the Upcoming RC Events part of the homepage to the Bayou City Flyers website (look to the lower right) has been updated with 10 – 2018 events. If members know of other events, please send information about them to Jonathan Gulick, BCF Website Coordinator so it can be posted to the website.

Weather Content on the Homepage

The Weather section seen near the top right of the homepage has been updated.  As the American Shooting Center weather station appears to be inactive, four (4) Weather Underground Personal Weather Stations (PWS) to the north, east, south and west of George Bush Park have been selected and posted to the homepage.  These sites are available when accessing the BCFers website via iPhones or iPads, however, do not appear like they do on desktop PC’s.  Several additional potentially useful weather websites are also posted in this section.  Some BCF members had recommended posting a link to checkthesock.com  as at onetime the “old” Bayou […]

George Lumpkins’: 6 motor C-17

BCF Members, George Lumpkin’s 16th contribution has been posted to the Member’s Corner part of the Member Documents section of this website. As BCFers know, George is a prolific and creative RC modeler who had specialized in twin motor BARF airplanes (AKA “Twinman”), but has been steadily gravitating to models with >2 motors. It is suspected George’s creativity knows no bounds, but as he notes, the job that pays for the hobby, gets in the way of the hobby. When you see George, don’t encourage him…

In the December 2, 2017 club meeting, voting was held for the 2018 club officers. The results follow: President – Art Alvarez, Vice President – Garry Woodhouse, Treasurer – Jim Keil, Secretary – John Haskell. As a result of “Harvey” flood damage to the Bayou City Flyers clubhouse, the HobbyTown Houston store located in the Village at West Oaks, 2392 South Texas 6, Houston, TX 77077 (northwest corner of Texas 6 and Westheimer) has kindly offered the club use of their conference room for our monthly meetings. Thank you HobbyTown – a large store with huge inventory and very helpful staff. Please endeavor to visit this store and spend your hobby $$$.
